What does it mean to be spiritually healthy? In the world today we are always talking about how to become healthier. To become healthy in a general sense, one must go back to the source of the pain or damage and have it fixed back to it’s original design. This leads us to some of the big questions that humans have been asking for all of time.
How were we created? What were we created for? What is our original design? To answer these questions we have to go back to the very beginning of time when man was first created.
“Then God said, Let us make human beings in our image and in our likeness.”
Genesis 1:26
“So God created human beings in his own image, in the image of God he created them.”
Genesis 1:27
Our original design is the image and likeness of God. Which means that to be spiritually healthy is to live our lives in His image and likeness. If we were to be completely spiritually healthy, then everything about who we are and what we do would reflect the image of God. When we are spiritually healthy, we are being exactly who we were created to be. We were created to be like Christ.
Becoming spiritually healthy means that we are allowing God to reveal to us who he created us to be and letting him establish that within us so that we can fully walk it out in every area of our lives. This is what becoming spiritually healthy looks like in its core essence.
We are able to go on this journey of inner healing all thanks to what Jesus did on the cross. His death and resurrection has made it possible for us to become spiritually healthy. What is happening in this process of becoming spiritually healthy is Jesus revealing to us what he did on the cross in a way that sinks down into the core of our very being. Becoming spiritually healthy has all been paid for by the blood of Jesus. Being who we were created to be is not something we have to obtain, it is something that is to be revealed. It starts and ends with the cross.
The world isn’t perfect and Satan is doing everything in his power to stop us from being who we were designed to be. We live in a world where we can spend most of our days being distracted, having little idea what is actually going on inside of us. We miss out on the invitations that Jesus sends our way to be healed. When we are spiritually healthy we are able to have a clear understanding of what is going on in our life at any given moment, or at least know what to do when we are unsure of what is going on.
Becoming spiritually healthy affects and rewires our perspective. It will change how we see these four areas: God, ourselves, others, and the world. Spiritual health is directly related to our level of intimacy with God. The deeper level of intimacy with God that we have means the more spiritually healthy we are and vice versa. The true and ultimate goal is to deepen our level of intimacy with Jesus. This is truly what He is after. He is after a relationship with us. The fruit of a relationship with Jesus is a healthy spiritual life.
Jesus is not after your spiritual health, He already paid for that on the cross, what He’s really after is YOU!
